Cottage School

Who We Are

Revival Acres is an eight acre family farm at the edge of the Berkshire mountains in Massachusetts. The Cottage School was created with the desire to share its lovely green space to facilitate generous outdoor exploration and play with other families. We offer a unique, homeschool-hybrid model that recognizes parents as the primary educators of their children. Your children will begin and end their week at home, under your homeschooling instruction providing the most meaningful “bookends” to their week. Tuesday and Thursday your children are welcomed to Revival Acres where they will have access to a Charlotte Mason inspired, biblical program of living ideas and supervised nature study exploring our pond, streams, gardens, livestock, and much more!

Our Mission

Revival Acres Cottage School is a Charlotte Mason inspired biblical, two-day tutoring program that utilizes our family farm to provide an educational atmosphere, discipline, and life for the community. We are building a legacy for our children that combines a desire to disciple the whole person using the whole of creation. Together, we will discover the knowledge of God, the universe, and of man in a biblical community while exploring nature and living ideas found in living books.

Our Philosophy

Our philosophy is best articulated in the work and life of Charlotte Mason, a British educator of the 19th century, who developed a method of education centered around the truth “children are born persons”. Each child is uniquely and wonderfully made, deserving of respect to discover this world through a “feast” of subjects. Revival Acres offers scripture study, artist study, composer study, hymn study, folksongs, folk dancing, recitation, picture study, handicrafts, copy-work, nature lore, literature, and more!

At Revival Acres we strive to lay out this feast in a variety of ways:

  • Living books full of first-hand ideas and experiences
  • Short, varied lessons with plenty of time for numerous forms of narrations (retelling) to assimilate ideas
  • Nature study allowing each child to continually build their “science of relations” with creation
  • Partnering with the Holy Spirit who is the Giver of all wisdom

This method also groups children into forms, allowing the child the opportunity to learn and grow at their own pace in various subjects.

  • Kinder (pre-K and K)
  • Form I – ages 6-9 (roughly grades 1-3)
  • Form II – ages 9-12 (roughly grades 4-6)
  • Form III – ages 12-14 (roughly grades 7-8)
  • Form IV – ages 14-15 (roughly grades 8-9)
  • Form V – ages 16-18 (grades 10-12)
