It was a wonderful time to point people to true hope and joy, which is the birth of Jesus. We had a blast showing all the kids (and adults) our chickens!

When I first began wrapping my mind around @the.cm

When I first began wrapping my mind around @the.cmec material, I printed out form guides and put them in a mega binder. As I delved deeper into planning and organizing, I decided subject binding will work better for me to visualize work to be done, and in the happy chance I have a co-teacher(grandparents and friends for the win!) for the day, they can grab a guide and go. So I took a break from pre-reading, made pretty cover pages (because why not 💁🏼‍♀️), and got to binding.
These simple tasks of organizing the way that is best for your homeschool is SO important to feel prepared in practical ways. It also helps me see all that I’ve already done for next school year, giving me the energy to keep going. How do you organize your materials?

Fun fact: My husband’s great grandfather was a well known geologist and professor in the early-mid 1900’s. He traveled all over the world studying minerals and proclaiming the Gospel. A love of rocks skipped a few generations but settled deep in my husband’s list of hobbies, as well as our eldest. Papa Gedney compiled over 1,000 minerals into a handwritten list by number found on the specimen bottles. He definitely is giving us a lesson, albeit over a 100 years old, of how to collect and organize natural history beautifully and accurately. I’m thankful we were given these treasures for them to swoon over and for us to learn about God’s creation through our patriarch’s legacy.

A love of cooking runs deep in our family. My Nana was always found in the kitchen cooking, snipping out recipes from the newspaper, or jotting a new one down, sometimes in secret (a story for another time 😂). She was well known for her rolls and thanksgiving stuffing. When she died, out of everything she had, all I searched for was her recipe box and book. They were what held my treasured memories in their blackened pages; both had survived a fire when my dad was off serving in the navy. These two things keep her memory alive with her beautiful hand writing, smells of my childhood, and names of precious family members. I love that she always gave tribute to whoever taught her a recipe when she wrote them down. “Jessie’s Fried Apple Pies” or “My Grandfather’s Bread”, but the most common is “Mama’s _____”. She loved her Mama and her cooking. I can only pray that my kids will grow to feel the same, and then my grand-babies as well. That’s a legacy that’s fills hearts and bodies with rich nourishment, lasting lifetimes.

Pre-reading is always better with puppies! I’ve been looking forward to diving into this book for years and it does not disappoint. Charlotte Mason must have been overjoyed when this book came out, or maybe she had inside info of its printing, but either way it was originally published at the perfect time to be included in every program since. Think of the families all over the world, for over a hundred years, who have gleaned from its pages. Or the imaginations blossomed with a renewed love of history because of the writings of the mysterious H.E. Marshall.

This week I was determined to begin my pre-reading for next school year. But I was apprehensive... does anyone else get anxious to start writing in a new planner/notebook? 😬 I think because I’m not “artistic” or don’t always have the best handwriting, I psych myself out. But alas, we all need to grow out of our comfort and work diligently, so I’m determined to improve my handwriting and conquer my fear of keeping. A huge thank you to @_home_sweet_homeschool_ for sharing her pre-reading tips to help me feel more at ease beginning. Here’s to learning about God’s character through the life of Joshua and his leadership!

Arielle’s goal in creating Revival Acres Cottage School was to fill a gap in her local community – resources, encouragement, and accessibility to any family who wishes to homeschool their child(ren). She hopes to help parents feel confident in their decision to homeschool and provide access to the beautiful feast of learning laid out within a Charlotte Mason inspired education. How is this done? A well planned, varied schedule full of living ideas and books. Why? ⬇️

“Revival Acres is a Charlotte Mason inspired biblical, two-day tutoring program that utilizes our family farm to provide an educational atmosphere, discipline, and life for the community. We are building a legacy for our children that combines a desire to disciple the whole person using the whole of creation. Thank you all SO much for my birthday wishes! 🎉We’ve been a little quiet over here because we just completed a two week, 2500 mile road trip to FL ... and surprise! We intended to pick up one, but a last minute birthday surprise and the brother-sister duo came instead. Meet our new livestock guardian dogs, Kiba and Luna 😍. My husband is continually making my dreams come true here on the Revival Acres Homestead. Incredibly thankful for this adventure and the precious family I’ve been given to do it with! Here’s to 32 🥂

Packing for a long road trip always brings on new

Packing for a long road trip always brings on new inspiration for organizing! I’ve decided to put their prize bags and snacks all in their own container this time. These fit perfectly under their seats and contains all the things. It helps us save money on the road by bringing our own snacks and keeps the kids excited, with (mostly) positive attitudes. We don’t do screen time so that’s a win-win in my book! What are your fav road trip hacks and snacks for kids? Let me know below to help a Mama out 😅 ⬇️

There’s a few things the hubs and I were discuss

There’s a few things the hubs and I were discussing last night that we know to be true:

✔️ The world is literally insane, but should we expect less? Good thing our hope doesn’t rest here.
✔️ The world is propagating fear. Good thing we’re not to live in fear. If your brother and sister is, you need to come alongside them, using truth to help pull them out of it!
✔️ More is going to come. That’s a fact. Look at Canada or Australia, and if you have no idea what I’m talking about, find another news source.

Being a biblical peacemaker has very little to do with the feeling of peace, but rather relationship-restoration between God and man. Yes, we should live among ourselves (the church) without contention but not at the expense of righteousness. And we surely shouldn’t live among the world and look just like it.

So when people see and hear me fired up about political issues (or do I dare say spiritual issues), it’s not because I’m shocked at the world. It usually is because I see my brothers and sisters sinking in the fear we are called to step out of.

The world is continually being primed by hatred, greed, and pride. Primed for what? The Gospel! The Gospel of love and peace; not the feeling but the ACTIONS of God and Jesus to reconcile us to Himself. Boldness to call out fear and injustice and dishonesty and hatred of children and the destruction of families and marriages is what it takes to change the hearts of the world.

Boldness is hard, death to self-preservation work. I pray that my family isn’t crippled by the fears and lies that seep in. I pray I can take my thoughts captive, drenching them in the Holy Spirit. I pray my actions are biblically compassionate towards the world and the church. Lord help me. Lord help us.

I’ve been pretty quiet over here as we gear up to camp our way half way across the country. Packing for a mega family road trip, while doing homeschool full-force, is not for the faint of heart! 😅 But here we are, Mama being taught how to chalk pastel while being schooled by her students. Thankful for these days and the flexibility it gives us for family adventures whenever the wedding bells ring or the wilderness beckons. ☺️

Just yesterday, this bird nest was given to us by our Grammy. She has been keeping us updated, over the last few weeks, on these little robin eggs nested near her home. Grammy noticed another bird had laid an egg in it after the robin and we soon figured out it must have been a cowbird. The mother robin ended up deserting her nest because she was confused by the cowbird hatching, thinking it was her own. Hence this beautiful nest on my kitchen table. But even more exciting was that today’s nature lore reading, from Among the Forest People by Clara D. Pierson, was about the cowbird! We were all so surprised to have this real life application so providentially provided! It’s the little things; perfectly lined up instances that give us glimpses of God’s gentle care in our most simple days. ✨

For our drawing time we’ve decided to use chalk pastels. I’ve gotta say, from a Mama stand point, they’re my least favorite medium 😬. The mess gets a little outrageous, especially when my PreK student is involved. But their excitement when it’s on the schedule and thrill of a job well done is worth it to me. Going out of my comfort zone always broadens our feast and builds skill sets often neglected. I am also so thankful for video lessons 😅 and talented people sharing their passion for us homeschool Mamas to utilize!

Can I explain these precious pre-school years any better than Charlotte Mason, herself? No, I really don’t think so, but I can shed light on how I am interpreting her wisdom in my home. I wholeheartedly concur with all that Miss Mason does say on the subject and try my best to heed her advice. There are many practical ways to implement these quiet growing years in our homes that best suit each of our children. Therefore, a Charlotte Mason Preschool may differ from every child, but there are a few non-negotiables.

I am so thankful and blown away by the support we

I am so thankful and blown away by the support we received yesterday! My sweet girl has been wanting to figure out ways to make money to buy gifts and “Pay for vet school.” (Slow down, honey!😬) The last couple of weeks we’ve been talking through ideas. We’ve discussed that providing a ‘good’, means we need to be doing our best work and she’d have purchase some supplies with her own money first, paying herself back with the profit. She decided to make needle felted animals, which was one of our handicrafts last year.
Wow! The response we received was incredibly sweet and encouraged all our hearts! I teared up reading messages and notes; some putting in orders for over 30 and others wanting to donate money for her supplies. It blessed our hearts immensely. Thank you for loving our children and supporting our family’s endeavors.❤️

I’ve been asked a lot about my true, Charlotte Mason morning schedule while using @agentlefeast for my Form IB and IA students. Many people assume that to do a true Charlotte Mason Schedule you must teach all day because of the vast amount of subjects covered. Oh contraire! That’s the furthest from the truth. Miss Mason believed the afternoons should be left to the students interests and household tasks. Therefore, all the subjects offered had to be accomplished in a two and half hour time span (an hour longer for older students). But how?! A timetable of course!
